Force India scoort geen punten in 'ongelukkig weekend'

De nummer 4 van het constructeurskampioenschap in 2017 is niet goed begonnen aan het nieuwe seizoen. Force India scoorde geen punten in Australië: Sergio Perez kwam als elfde over de meet, Esteban Ocon zat daarachter met positie 12.

Na afloop van de race sprak Perez over een 'ongelukkig weekend'. "We kwamen in de buurt van een punt, maar dat bleef net buiten bereik. Gedurende de hele race gaf ik alles, zeker toen ik jacht maakte op Sainz in de slotfase. Het was echter niet genoeg", aldus de Mexicaan, die de race als twaalfde aanving. "Inhalen is in Melbourne erg lastig, dat zag je ook toen Bottas in de eerste stint achter mij reed."

"De virtual safety car heeft ons ook niet geholpen, maar zo gaat het soms. Ik ben blij met hoe het team en ik gewerkt hebben. We moeten verder en ons verbeteren, maar ik denk dat we snel kunnen strijden om punten. Hopelijk komen de verbeteringen al vanaf Bahrein. Dat is een circuit waar je kan inhalen en waar strategie een grotere rol speelt dan in Melbourne."

Lastig weekend voor Ocon

De als veertiende vertrokken Ocon had het lastig op het semi-stratencircuit door Albert Park. "Het was erg lastig om in te halen en hoewel ik in de eerste ronde voorbij ging aan Lance Stroll, waaierde het veld snel uit tot aan de safety car. Ik had een gevechtje met Bottas en na de neutralisatie was ik dichtbij een inhaalpoging op Sergio."

"Onze racepace was beter dan onze snelheid in de kwalificatie, maar we missen het een en ander om in de top 10 mee te kunnen doen", vervolgt Ocon. "Dingen kunnen snel veranderen in de Formule 1 en de komende twee weken zullen we hard blijven werken, zodat we in Bahrein iets meer kunnen brengen."

Tja denk dat ze eerder gewoon geluk hadden door falen van teams die gewoon normaal in de top hadden moeten staan.

  Jullie lullen maar lekker met die oranje bril maar normaal mag je verwachten dat een Renault en McLaren gewoon voor die FI staat en met beetje pech de Williams ook nog.

  Leuk zon filter als er niemand zit. maar wou dus zeggen normaliter staat een Renault en McLaren gewoon in die top 10 dus ja dan zal de Force India niet daar staan.

  Nog domme gasten ook die nieuwe fans met hun plusjes dat bewijst wel weer dat ze pas F1 kijken.... En ja vanaf dat Max in de Formule 1 zit zat Renault er niet en McLaren niet in de top. Man man ga me steeds meer ergeren aan die......

FI lijkt dit jaar de boot flink gemist te hebben, dat is toch wel jammer. Ook lastiger nu voor Occon om zich te bewijzen als talent van de toekomst.

  Mercedes zal vooral kijken hoe Ocon zich houd t.o.v. Perez. Verder maakt het hun niet uit of Ocon strijd om een 5e of een 10 plaats, zolang hij er maar het maximale uithaald.
  
  Force India heeft wel vaker een stroef begin maar het lijkt er nu echt op dat Force India is ingehaald door een paar teams. 4e zullen ze echt niet meer worden in 2018. 6e zou al zeer goed zijn voor dit kleine team.

  Zowel de kwalificatie als de race aan Perez verloren. Dan naast de baan weer komen met deze quote: "na de neutralisatie was ik dichtbij een inhaalpoging op Sergio."... NOT!

Ik denk niet dat dit een incident was, want FI viel in de wintertesten ook al tegen. Maar ik hoop echt dat ze in Bahrein toch wel een stuk beter voor de dag gaan komen dan dit,

  @af ja door de komst van de halo hebben ze een volledig nieuw chassis moeten bouwen en blijkbaar kwamen ze daar pas laat achter.
