Abiteboul ontkent bestaan optie op Esteban Ocon niet

Al een aantal weken gaat het gerucht rond dat Renault een optie heeft op de diensten van Esteban Ocon. Cyril Abiteboul, teambaas van de Fransen, heeft bij de Grand Prix van Hongarije niet willen ontkennen dat die optie bestaat en hij noemde het halen van Ocon 'erg aantrekkelijk'.

Momenteel heeft Renault Nico Hülkenberg onder contract staan, terwijl Carlos Sainz naar tevredenheid geleend wordt van Red Bull. Het aanblijven van Sainz is ook een mogelijkheid, vertelde Abiteboul. "Ik vind ook dat we geweldige rijders hebben, maar we willen vooruit. We moeten analyseren wat er nu gebeurt en wat we in de toekomst nodig hebben."

Sainz wordt echter ook gelinkt aan een overstap naar McLaren, waar hij naast Fernando Alonso moet gaan rijden. Renault zou meer opties hebben voor de bezetting van het zitje naast Hülkenberg. "Een of twee jaar geleden was ons team niet interessant voor coureurs, maar iedereen ziet onze progressie. We zijn dus steeds interessanter geworden voor de coureurs", zegt Abiteboul daarover.

Bovenaan dat lijstje van Abiteboul en Renault staat waarschijnlijk Esteban Ocon. Hij is ook een Fransman, maar staat onder contract bij Mercedes en Force India. "Er zijn geruchten over een van de coureurs van Force India, om precies te zijn die Fransman. Ik ontken niet dat die optie er is en die is ook erg aantrekkelijk. Hij is niets minder interessant dan onze andere opties, zoals het verder werken met Carlos. We gaan het zien."

  Het is volgens mij een optie en niet dat er een optie ligt van Renault op Ocon ;-)
  Zou eigenlijk ook een beetje vreemd zijn omdat Ocon nog steeds tot de MER-junioren behoort en er een contract ligt met FI.

  Dat is wel heel erg diplomatiek uitgedrukt. Zeg nou gewoon dat ze naar de kl*ten zijn, dat begrijpt iedereen tenminste. Maar we hebben een lichtpuntje: Force India wordt binnenkort (S)troll F1 Snail Racing Ltd. Wordt het toch nog gezellig op de grid! :-p

  Volgens het Duitse Formel1, wil papa Stroll alleen instappen als sponsor (tot een bedrag van plm. 30 miljoen) en zal niet gaan voor een volledige overname.
  Er hebben zich trouwens wel andere partijen gemeld bij de curator en volgens verwachting zal deze er gedurende de zomerstop de nodige gesprekken gaan voeren.
  
  Een van de geïnteresseerden zou Michael Andretti zijn, daarnaast ook papa Masepin (zoon Nikita is al reserve bij FI)
  
  We zullen het zien ;-)

Las ook al ergens dat Mercedes er geen probleem van maakt.. Dat is wel duidelijk, Ocon volgendjaar in Renault...

  Mercedes heeft een goede relatie met Renault. Als ze Ocon over een jaar of 2 graag willen hebben, dan is dat waarschijnlijk geen issue.
