Calderon: "Verblijf in Formule 2 noodzaak voor stap naar Formule 1"

Coureurs die de stap naar de Formule 1 willen maken, zijn vrijwel genoodzaakt om eerst een tijd in de Formule 2 te rijden. Dat zegt Tatiana Calderon, de ontwikkelingscoureur van Sauber die in Mexico voor het eerst plaatsnam in een Formule 1-bolide.

De afgelopen jaren maakten onder andere Max Verstappen en Lance Stroll direct de stap van de Formule 3 naar de Formule 1. Volgens Calderon is dat nu vrijwel niet meer te doen, ook omdat de Formule 2 een goede leerschool is op het gebied van banden sparen, pitstops en de lengte van de races. "Als je naar de Formule 1 wil gaan, dan is het noodzakelijk om ook Formule 2 te doen."

Calderon hoopt zelf in 2019 de stap van de GP3 naar de Formule 2 te maken. Ze verwacht dat het haar beter vergaat in de Formule 2, omdat de races langer zijn. "Ik kijk altijd naar de races en eerlijk gezegd leveren ze soms de beste races af. Ik zou er erg graag in rijden. Ik denk dat de auto beter geschikt is voor mij, ook door de pitstops. Ik heb vooral moeite gehad met kwalificeren en in de Formule 2 heb je nog een kans als je je matig kwalificeert, dus hopelijk is dat het geval."

"We wachten nog en we proberen iets te regelen, maar ik zou graag in de Formule 2 rijden," vervolgt Calderon. "Het zou geweldig zijn als ik na de seizoensafsluiting in Abu Dhabi kan beginnen met testen. We proberen alles samen te laten komen en het budget hangt af van welk team je kiest. Het is behoorlijk veel, maar het doel is om in de Formule 2 te komen."

Meisje meisje zet die F1 droom maar uit je hoofd. Je bent niet goed genoeg voor F1. Probeer eerst maar eens in de top 10 van de F2 te eindigen dat zou al heel wat zijn.

Benieuwd wat ze in de F2 kan, hoe snel ze zich aan kan passen en progressie laat zien. In de GP3 weinig laten zien tot op heden om op te vallen bij de F1 teams.

Ben benieuwd wat ze zou kunnen...ik verwacht eigenlijk weinig van de F2 volgend jaar aangezien er geen echte toppers in zitten ( sorry Nyck ) als de vries volgend jaar meedoet aan het nieuwe seizoen in de Formule 2, kan hij volgens mij zowat gratis de titel pakken

Calderon heeft zeker talent, maar als we heel eerlijk zijn, haar teamgenoot dit jaar, Juan Manuel Correa, die ook nog nooit enige rol van betekenis heeft gespeeld in een kampioenschap heeft wel al bijna 4 keer zo veel punten behaald.

Vorig jaar reed Ticktum eind van het seizoen ook 5 races GP3 als teamgenoot van Calderon en haalde hier 36 punten tegenover de 7 die Calderon haalde over het complete seizoen.

Je moet het dan eigenlijk niet willen dat ze in de F1 gaat racen. Het zal ook nooit gaan gebeuren. Een F1 test als publiciteitsstunt misschien nog wel, maar geen enkel team wil het imago schade oplopen van een coureur die echt heel veel te langzaam is.

Beetje irritant deze dame. Ik ben helemaal vóór gelijke kansen, maar deze dame wil juist het omgekeerde: ondanks maar weinig prestaties met de ellebogen naar voren om in F1 te komen, 'omdat het toch al zo moeilijk is voor vrouwen in de autosport'.
Ze presteert zeer middelmatig tot nu toe. Laat haar aub niet elke keer in de publiciteit.

Toch laat ze af en toe leuke dingen zien.. en er zijn slechtere coureurs als haar.. misschien een optie om in elke klasse F4, F3, F2, F1 de derde auto een vrouw de kans te geven?
Het geeft in ieder geval een voller veld en meer inhaalacties..

Zijn er nog mensen langs de kartbaan die zichthebben op de verhouding man/vrouw bij de jeugd en of er vrouwelijk talent tussen zit?
