Fernando Alonso overweegt om in 2020 een volledig IndyCar seizoen te rijden. Dat meldden diverse bronnen in de IndyCar-paddock.

De 37-jarige Spanjaard zal volgend jaar proberen het derde onderdeel van 'The Triple Crown' te winnen op de Indianpolis Motor Speedway tijdens de 103e Indianapolis 500. Alonso en McLaren staan ingeschreven op de voorlopige entry-list.

Afgelopen week is bekend gemaakt dat McLaren een lease-contract heeft gesloten met Chevrolet voor de Indy 500 van 2019. "Ik had een break nodig en ik moest opnieuw motivatie vinden. Ik ga in 2019 in een relax-modus. Ik weet nog niet zeker wat ik in 2020 wil gaan doen, maar ik sta voor 100% open voor een full-time IndyCar avontuur."

Voor 2019 zal de tweevoudig-wereldkampioen Formule 1 in elk geval de Rolex 24-uur van Daytona rijden. Ook is hij te bewonderen in het WEC-kampioenschap, aangezien Alonso nog een contract heeft met Toyota. De Indianapolis 500 van 2019 zal Alonso op 26 mei rijden. De Indianapolis Grand Prix, die gereden zal worden op 11 mei op de roadcourse is eveneens een optie. McLaren en Alonso zouden graag hun monteurs en pitcrew willen voorbereiden door deze race te rijden.

Een andere optie voor Alonso is het Supercars Championship in Australië. Zak Brown zou Alonso gepolst hebben om tijdens drie races als co-driver te fungeren voor James Courtney. Het zou hierbij gaan om de Bathurst 1000, de Gold Coast 600 en de Sandown 500. Deze drie races maken deel uit van het endurance-kampioenschap van de Supercars. Zak Brown is mede-teameigenaar van het Supercars-team Walkinshaw-Andretti United, dit team staat met een Holden ZB Commodore aan de start.

Haha das toevallig. Schreef gisteren of eergisteren nog ergens dat t gaaf zou zijn als ie in t V8 supercars zou gaan rijden. Bathurst!
