Moeizaam weekend voor McLaren in Mexico: 'Lando Norris krijgt gridstraf om motorwissel'

Terwijl er op de officiële website van de FIA nog niets over te lezen valt, meldt journalist Albert Fabrega op Twitter dat Lando Norris de Mexicaanse Grand Prix van achteraan zal starten vanwege een motorwissel.

Het team van McLaren kende een moeizame vrijdag in Mexico. Daniel Ricciardo stond vrijdagmiddag grotendeels naast de bolide vanwege een probleem met zijn versnellingsbak. De bolides kwamen niet goed op snelheid tijdens de eerste vrije training: Ricciardo en Norris noteerden de veertiende en de vijftiende tijd. Tijdens de tweede vrije training werd Norris twaalfde en Ricciardo vijftiende, toen het probleem met zijn versnellingsbak aan het licht kwam.

"Geen makkelijke sessies voor ons: de coureurs worstelden echt met de balans van de auto en kregen de rondjes niet goed voor elkaar. Wij hebben werk aan de winkel", zo werd Andreas Seidl geciteerd door persbureau REUTERS na de stroeve start op vrijdag in Mexico.

McLaren en Ferrari strijden om de derde positie in de WK-stand voor constructeurs. Op een spinnetje van Leclerc na lijken de rode bolides de zaken in Mexico beter voor elkaar te hebben dan het team van McLaren.

Dat ziet Seidl ook: "Ferrari is zeker een goede stap voorwaarts gegaan tijdens de laatste twee races en het zal lastig worden om voor hen te blijven, maar wij doen ons uiterste best", stelde de McLaren-topman na een teleurstellend begin van het raceweekend voor het team uit Woking.
