Norris had gehoopt op beter resultaat Grand Prix Hongarije

Tijdens de kwalificatiesessie van de Grand Prix van Hongarije wist McLaren-coureur Lando Norris zichzelf op een spectaculaire vierde stek te kwalificeren. Norris wist Hamilton in de openingsfase van de race achter zich te houden. Na tijdens een pitstop een bandenwissel naar de harde band, finishte de coureur meer dan een minuut achter Leclerc, die zesde werd. Norris had gehoopt dat er iets meer mogelijk was voor McLaren.

Tegenover de officiële mediarepresentatie van de Formule 1 vertelt Norris dat hij een ‘goede performance’ had in vergelijking met de directe concurrenten van McLaren. (Alpine, Alfa Romeo) “Maar ik had wat meer verwacht van de zondag, aangezien ik op de vierde plek startte. Degene die voor me eindigde (Leclerc) had een voorsprong van 62 seconden. Dan is het een uitdaging om een beter resultaat te behalen dan zevende. Onze race was voornamelijk tegen Alpine en de auto’s achter mij.”

Norris is tevreden over de ‘sterke’ pace op de medium banden en is blij dat de McLaren beter met het managen hiervan omging dan de Alpine. Toch was datzelfde setje medium banden ‘sneller kapot dan bij de concurrenten’. “Het ging niet helemaal volgens plan. Dat is het enige waar we aan moeten werken. De tweede stint was sterk en de laatste was makkelijk, dat was een kwestie van de race uitrijden. Het was uitdagend maar we hebben ons best gedaan. Een zevende plek moet ik blij mee zijn.”

Teambaas Andreas Seidl kijkt naar de top zes in het eindklassement op circuit Hungaroring en stelt dat de zevende plek ‘het beste resultaat mogelijk was’. “Lando heeft een nette race gereden. De top-drie teams (Red Bull, Ferrari en Mercedes) zijn allemaal gefinisht, dus is zevende voor ons het beste resultaat. De upgrade die we hebben geïntroduceerd bij de Grand Prix van Frankrijk heeft ons resultaat hier mogelijk gemaakt”, sluit Seidl af.

Norris geen groot talent? Ik vind dat hij Ricciardo anders keer op keer aardig op grote achterstand rijdt.

Of Mclaren nooit meer om de voorste plaatsen mee zal strijden, zal de toekomst uitwijzen.

Het mag best wel eens tijd worden dat mensen zich gaan realiseren dat:
1) Norris niet zo'n groot talent is
2) McLaren echt nooit meer structureel om de voorste plaatsen mee zal doen.

  Zegt meer over Ricciardo dan Norris. Ricciardo is geen schim meer van wie hij was in de Red Bull. Maar iedereen is nog steeds lyrisch over die vent.

  Niemand weet of Ricciardo geen schim meer is van de coureur die hij bij RB was. Net als dat niemand weet hoe groot het talent van Norris nu wel of niet is.
  
  Wat we wel weten, is dat Norris zijn teamgenoot Ricciardo al anderhalf jaar lang aan gort rijdt.
  Hij zal dus best aardig wat talent hebben.

  RBR heeft Norris in 2020 al benaderd voor een stoeltje,
  Mercedes heeft interesse in Norris en
  Ferrari had interesse in Norris.
  Dat is vast en zeker omdat hij geen groot talent is!
  Norris is één van de grootste talenten op de grid en het is
  ontzettend jammer dat hij niet voor een top team rijdt!

  Norris is overrated en maakt nog steeds dezelfde fouten als in zijn eerste seizoen. Verdedigt als een natte krant op momenten dat het er echt toe doet en kan tactisch weinig inbrengen bij het team. Sochi heeft al mijn negativiteit bewezen. En dat RBR Norris heeft willen contracteren, dat is leuk. Maar die tweede rijder hebben ze inmiddels al wel gevonden.

Wanneer iedereen de finish haalt, is p7 gewoon het maximaal haalbare voor teams als Mclaren.

De nieuwe regels moesten zorgen voor een veld dat dichterbij elkaar zou komen te liggen, maar vooralsnog heeft dat averechts gewerkt, want vorig jaar zat Mclaren veel dichterbij RB en Mercedes.

  Helaas is een veld nooit dicht bij elkaar na een grote regelwisseling. We mogen echt blij zijn dat Red Bull extreem goed werk heeft gedaan in zeer korte tijd, want anders had Ferrari nu 180 punten voor gestaan.
  
  We hebben nu nog een paar mooie races gehad. En het zou ook erg spannend zijn geweest vooraan indien Ferrari op alle gelederen het wel goed had gedaan.
  
  Volgend jaar wordt het mogelijk wat closer. Echter hou ik rekening met mega vondsten van Newey en Mercedes. Daar zitten toch de beste technici. Eigenlijk is wat gebeurd is erg voorspelbaar.
