Montoya gelooft niet in Perez-geruchten: "Daar is de media dol op"

Sergio Perez is bezig met een lastige fase van het seizoen. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur blijft ver achter op zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen en zet vooral in de kwalificaties teleurstellende resultaten neer. Juan Pablo Montoya denkt dat verhalen over een eventueel ontslag alleen afkomstig zijn van de media.

Perez staat onder grote druk bij Red Bull Racing. De Mexicaan bleef in de openingsfase van het seizoen nog in de buurt van zijn teamgenoot Verstappen, maar staat inmiddels ver achter. Dat komt mede door een grote reeks slechte kwalificaties. In Monaco, Spanje, Canada, Oostenrijk en Groot-Brittannië viel Perez vroegtijdig af in de kwalificatie waardoor hij veel inhaalraces moest rijden.

Media

Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko is dan ook niet helemaal tevreden met Perez, maar een ontslag is volgens hem niet aan de orde. Voormalig Formule 1-coureur Juan Pablo Montoya stelt in gesprek met VegasInsider dat dit verhaal afkomstig is van de media: "Het feit dat Checo Verstappens teamgenoot is zorgt voor een enorm fijne sfeer, hij zet Max namelijk niet onder druk. De media vindt het leuk om het vuurtje aan te wakkeren, daar zijn ze dol op. Het is als een hond met een bot, mensen zullen er op reageren."

Onder druk

Montoya ziet wel dat Helmut Marko zich soms kritisch uitspreekt. maar volgens de Colombiaan heeft dit niets te maken met een mogelijke ontslagronde: "Helmut zet je onder druk omdat hij wil dat je presteert, niet omdat hij je wil ontslaan. Hij doet er alles aan om het beste uit je te halen. Hij geeft je geen schouderklopjes en hij zegt niet dat je het kan. Hij zegt dat je jezelf moet verbeteren en dat je anders je spullen mag pakken."

  "Hij zegt dat je jezelf moet verbeteren en dat je anders je spullen mag pakken." Dat zegt wat mij betreft genoeg over wat er te gebeuren staat als Checo niet als de wiedeweerga gaat presteren.

  Dat is een Engelse uitdrukking, f(1)orum. Betekent iets als koppig, volhardend. In dit geval in Marko dus niet aflatend bezig om de rijder beter te laten presteren Volgens Montoya dan.
  
  Ik hoop niet dat je het erg vindt dat ik het heb vertaald voor je. De schrijvert hier heeft het in ieder geval niet vertaald. Andere uitdrukking. De schrijfert gebruikt double Dutch.

  Graag gedaan. Als je 'bot vangen' vertaalt naar het Engels wordt dat soms double dutch genoemd. Buiten accent is het heel snel te herkennen als er een Nederlander Engels spreekt. Ook ik heb daar erg veel moeite mee omdat ik in de straten van Rotterdam ben opgegroeid. Daar leer je niet zoals de Engelse taal echt gesproken wordt. Ik ben in dat stuk pas beter geworden door mijn werk. En door mijn bezoeken van en naar verre familie. Echt helemaal niets om je voor te schamen. Maar voor een r-e-d-a-c-t-e-u-r is het net zo moeilijk vaak als voor ons. Echter toont het ook luiheid voor die man. (of vrouw)

Het gerucht gaat dat Marko al een mooi plaatsje heeft gevonden om Nyck de Vries onder te brengen nu hij is vervangen door Daniel Ricciardo.
Waar Checo Perez dan naartoe moet zodra de Vries in zijn stoeltje zit is nog niet duidelijk.

Dit is vooral een goede zaak voor Checo zijn voorgangers, met name Albon die in beeld zou zijn bij Ferrari .. ik denk ook niet dat Checo er snel zal uitgezet worden enkel mocht Ricciardo Tsunoda compleet zoek rijden en dan nog.
