Marko wijst Norris aan als grootste rivaal van Verstappen

Max Verstappen moet vandaag in Austin een inhaalrace gaan rijden. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur moet na een teleurstellende kwalificatie starten vanaf de zesde plaats. Verstappen geldt toch als de grote favoriet voor de zege en Helmut Marko denkt dat hij vooral op Lando Norris moet letten.

Verstappen liet afgelopen nacht zien dat hij gewoon weer de snelste is op het Circuit of the Americas in Austin. Hij schreef de sprintrace op een zeer simpele wijze op zijn naam. De Nederlander startte op de eerste plaats en alleen bij de start had hij het eventjes moeilijk. Charles Leclerc daagde hem uit, maar Verstappen bleef rustig en hij gaf de Monegaskische Ferrari-coureur geen centimeter ruimte.

Controle

Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko was in zijn nopjes met de sprintzege van Verstappen. De Oostenrijker genoot van Verstappens dominantie en hij kon zelfs eventjes rustig achterover leunen. In gesprek met de Duitse tak van Sky Sports legde Marko het uit: "Max reed heel gecontroleerd. Hij was snel en hij wist op hetzelfde moment ook nog de banden te managen. Meer kun je gewoon niet doen."

Norris

Lewis Hamilton kon in de sprintrace Verstappen het tempo aardig volgen, maar verder dan volgen kwam de zevenvoudig wereldkampioen ook niet. De Brit is één van de coureurs die straks voor Verstappen start. Ook Lando Norris staat voor Verstappen en Marko let dan ook vooral op hem: "Norris had echt een goede snelheid te pakken, dus ik denk dat hij tijdens de Grand Prix van zondag onze grootste concurrent zal zijn."

De enige die Max van de overwinning af kan houden is Max zelf. Er staat geen maat op de pace van Red Bull op de gele band en het effect van Red Bulls triple DRS is zeer sterk op COTA. Ik hoop op een mooi gevecht tussen Norris, Hamilton en Leclerc.

Zo wel eens waar kunnen zijn. Vraag is wat Piastri kan. Sprintrace was matig, maar bij de start kreeg hij een tik van Sainz op zijn linker voorwiel. Wellicht dat zijn auto daardoor niet lekker ging. Ik meende ook correcties bij Piastri te zien die mij doen vermoeden dat de balans verstoord was.
Als mijn vermoedens kloppen en McLaren de auto weer op orde heeft, is Piastri ook eentje om in de gaten te houden. Hij start direct achter Perez.

  Ik heb de onboard beluisterd. Race engineer meldde dat er niets aan de hand was.
  
  Vermoed dat de setup niet goed is. De vraag is waarom het dan wel werkt bij Norris.

Zie dat Norris slechts één nieuwe Medium band heeft. Dat is niet erg gunstig.
Misschien is die gebruikte maar heel eventjes gebruikt. Ik hoop het.

  SQ1 en SQ2 waren op de medium band, dus hij heeft sowieso nog 2 setjes van maar 3 ronden oud

  Kan goed zijn dat Norris op
  medium start, om na 12-14 ronden naar hard te gaan en laatste 10 ronden op gebruikte mediums of soft de race uitrijdt. Ik denk dat meer teams de 2e stint op hard gaan.
