Reeks straffen transformeert grid voor Formule E-race in Saudi-Arabië

De startgrid voor de eerste Formule E-race van het seizoen 2018/2019 is flink gewijzigd ten opzichte van de uitslag van de kwalificatie. Meerdere coureurs werden gediskwalificeerd. Tom Dillmann en Robin Frijns zijn twee van de gediskwalificeerden.

Dillmann kwalificeerde zich op de tweede positie, maar de coureur van NIO is om nog onbekende reden uit de uitslag gehaald. Dat geldt ook voor teamgenoot Oliver Turvey en samen bezetten ze nu de laatste startrij. Dillmann ontsnapte tevens aan een straf voor het 'niet respecteren van de rode vlag'. De mededeling van de stewards vertelde dat Dillmann door de weercondities niet op een veilige manier de pits binnen kon komen tijdens een rode vlag.

Ook Lucas di Grassi, Sam Bird en Robin Frijns zijn uit de uitslag van de kwalificatie gehaald. De teams verklaarden dat de auto's te veel vermogen produceerden toen ze over een hobbel reden, maar dat hier geen voordeel uit gehaald werd. Alle coureurs maken gebruik van Audi-motoren. Di Grassi start vanaf P18, voor de Virgin Racing-coureurs.
