Tom Coronel moet de tweede ontmoeting van dit World Touring Car Championship-seizoen aan zich voorbij laten gaan. De Chevrolet Cruze van de Nederlander is te zwaar beschadigd na een crash in de tweede race tijdens het openingsweekend in Marrakech. ROAL Motorsport kan de bolide niet op tijd repareren voor het evenement op Paul Ricard van komend weekend.

Coronel vertelde aan De Telegraaf: "Gezien de omvang van de schade is het onmogelijk om de Cruze klaar te hebben voor de race in Frankrijk, ook logistiek gezien. Woensdag is de auto in Barcelona, maar dan moeten we eigenlijk al richting Frankrijk voor de volgende race. Voor het herstel moeten we in Engeland zijn en daar liggen de monocoque's niet op voorraad. Bij de derde ontmoeting op 3 en 4 mei in Hongarije ben ik weer van de partij. Dat staat vast, maar dit is gewoon heel erg jammer."

Het is bovendien een duur geintje voor ROAL Motorsport. "We rekenen op 200.000 euro. De complete auto is 'banani'. Ook de monocoque is flink beschadigd. Zo'n nieuw chassis kost zonder motor al 430.000 euro", aldus Coronel.
