Tom Coronel ook komend seizoen te bewonderen in de WTCC

Tom Coronel racet ook dit jaar in de World Touring Car Cup (WTCC), de hoogste raceklasse voor toerwagens. Dat betekent dat de 48-jarige Nederlander aan zijn 32ste seizoen in de autosport begint. Coronel heeft zijn contract bij Comtoyou Racing verlengd voor 2021. "Dit is gewoon wat ik het liefst doe."

Ook de voorbije twee seizoenen reed hij voor Comtoyou Racing. Coronel krijgt wel de beschikking over een nieuwe auto, een Audi RS 3 LMS. "Echt een brute machine. De auto is zó nieuw dat we de eerste twee raceweekeinden nog in een speciale camouflage livery rijden, omdat hij dan nog niet officieel te koop is. Vandaar al die vakjes en sponsors, enzo."

De WTCC-kalender voor 2021 bestaat uit acht raceweekenden, met twee races per weekend. Na vijf evenementen in Europa sluit de toerwagenklasse het jaar in oktober en november af in Azië, onder meer op een nieuw circuit in Zuid-Korea. Coronel: "Een prachtig programma. De Nordschleife van de Nürburgring en Macau zijn twee van mijn favoriete circuits. Ik kan nauwelijks wachten. Als ik niet race, word ik gek."

    Tis te hopen dat hij toch nog tijd vind om bij elke F1 race aan te schuiven bij Ziggo want ik kan zijn bijdrages zeer waarderen.

      Ik moet eerlijk zeggen dat ik daar nooit naar kijk, ik neem de boel op en spoel naar de race.
      En als de race afgelopen is zet ik alles uit......of Lance moet op het podium komen, dan kijk ik nog ff.
