Eurosport tot en met 2025 zeker van uitzendrechten voor WTCC

De liefhebbers van de FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCC), het wereldkampioenschap voor toerwagens, kunnen de serie ook de komende jaren via Eurosport volgen. De sportzender heeft het contract om de WTCC uit te zenden verlengd tot en met 2025. De licentie van de organisatie van de raceklasse om de technische reglementen van de TCR te gebruiken is voor dezelfde periode verlengd.

Tom Coronel is al sinds jaar en dag de Nederlandse troef in de WTCC. Ook komend seizoen is hij weer van de partij, met een Audi RS 3 LMS. Het WTCC-seizoen 2021 bestaat uit acht raceweekenden en begint in juni op de Nürburgring. De organisatie van de serie heeft voor Eurosport gekozen vanwege de continuïteit en de toewijding van de sportzender richting het toerwagenkampioenschap.

Francois Ribiero, hoofd van Eurosport Events: "We hebben non-stop hard gewekt om het niveau van de WTCC hoog te houden door middel van samenwerking met de internationale autosportbond FIA en hoogwaardige globale promotie. Door deze contractverlenging voorzien we al onze stakeholders van de in deze onzekere tijden benodigde stabiliteit."

Ik betwijfel of dat we de WTCC op eurosport gaan zien.
De WTCC bestaat namelijk al sinds eind 2017 niet meer. Deze is in 2018 vervangen door de WTCR.
