Lada keert mogelijk terug naar het WTCC vanaf Monza

Volgens de laatste berichten uit de WTCC-paddock zal Lada vanaf het raceweekend in Monza weer terug op de grid staan. De Russische autofabrikant stapte vlak voor het begin van het huidige seizoen uit het WTCC, maar kan dus misschien terugkeren.

Lada besloot slechts twee dagen voordat de inschrijving voor 2010 sloot om te stoppen met alle WTCC-activiteiten. Hierdoor kwam ook coureur Jaap van Lagen op straat te staan ondanks zijn contract met Lada. WTCC-baas Marcello Lotti zal de komende weken met vertegenwoordigers van Lada om de tafel gaan zitten om ze te overtuigen terug te keren naar de spectaculaire raceklasse.

"Dat ze besloten om te stoppen met het WTCC kwam als een donderslag bij heldere hemel, het was totaal onverwacht", vertelde Lotti. "De auto is klaar, de motoren zijn er en de teambaas heeft me verteld dat hij best bereid is om terug te keren. Ze hebben alleen het laatste zetje nodig en dat moet van Lada zelf komen."

Terwijl Lada zich terugtrok uit het WTCC, werd het een partner van het Renault Formule 1-team. "Via de Formule 1 willen ze het merk promoten, maar er zit daar geen geld achter. Veel mensen denken dat Lada geld stopt in Renault, maar ze hebben alleen maar een aandeel in het Formule 1-team", aldus Lotti. "Ik hoop dat we op korte termijn een oplossing kunnen vinden met de bazen van Lada, zodat ze weer kunnen instromen op het moment dat het Europese seizoen begint in Monza."

Seat is er ook al uitgestapt en BMW staat wellicht ook op het punt om er uit te stappen.

Misschien inderdaad een mooie kans for Lada om punten te scoren :)
