Pierre-Yves Corthals keert terug naar WTCC voor races in Zolder

Pierre-Yves Corthals zal in juni tijdens het WTCC-weekend in Zolder zijn terugkeer maken naar de spectaculaire toerwagenklasse. De Belg reed voor het laatst in 2008 in het WTCC met Exagon Engineering, hetzelfde team waarvoor hij in België zal rijden.

Corthals eindigde in 2008 als vierde in het Independents-kampioenschap met vier overwinningen. Voor Zolder keert hij eenmalig terug naar de raceklasse. "Ik ben erg blij dat ik bekend kan maken dat ik de WTCC-races in Zolder zal rijden", vertelde Corthals. "En dat is nog zacht uitgedrukt."

Corthals zal met een benzine aangedreven SEAT rijden voor het prive-team van Exagon. "Ik had natuurlijk liever in een dieselauto gezeten, maar dan had ik niet als privateer mee kunnen doen. Daarnaast denk ik dat de dieselauto's van SEAT straks veel strafgewicht aan boord zullen hebben vanwege hun goede prestaties in de afgelopen races."

Het WTCC strijkt op 19 en 20 juni neer op het circuit van Zolder.
