WTCC introduceert ploegentijdrit in 2016

Het World Touring Car Championship heeft iets nieuws bedacht om meer spektakel te creëren. Volgend jaar zal na de kwalificatie een soort ploegentijdrit plaatsvinden, naar het idee van een ploegentijdrit in de Tour de France. Dat format is door de Toerwagen Commissie van de internationale autosportbond FIA goedgekeurd.

Elke autofabrikant gaat om de beurt met drie coureurs in slagvolgorde de baan op. Zodra de eerste van de drie de startlijn passeert begint de klok te lopen en die stopt pas zodra de laatste van de drie na een aantal rondjes over de finishlijn rijdt. Op de Nordschleife bedraagt dit aantal één rondje, op de overige circuits geldt een minimumafstand van tien kilometer.

Parc fermé-regels zijn van kracht na het einde van de kwalificatie, maar voor de ploegentijdrit mogen de teams de auto's bijtanken en van verse banden voorzien. Er zijn in de ploegentijdrit punten voor het constructeurskampioenschap te verdienen. De winnaar krijgt tien punten. De puntentelling is als volgt: 10-8-6-3-2-1.
