Jordi Gene pakt eerste zege van het seizoen in Zolder

Jordi Gene heeft zojuist op het circuit van Zolder zijn allereerste overwinning van het seizoen gescoord. De Spanjaard kende een uitstekende start en bleef teamgenoot Gabriele Tarquini voor. Tom Coronel kende een ietwat teleurstellende race.

Tarquini mocht het tempo bepalen bij de start van de race omdat hij gisteren bij de kwalificatie de pole position veroverde. Echter, Gene was wakker en pakte zijn teamgenoot meteen bij de start om verder de hele race niet meer bedreigd te worden. Gene's start werd echter wel nog onderzocht door de wedstrijdleiding, voor een eventuele valse start, maar er werden vooralsnog geen straffen uitgedeeld.

Tarquini kon het tempo van zijn SEAT-teamgenoot niet volgen en eindigde op twee seconden achterstand als tweede. Achter het leidende duo vechtten de Chevrolet-teamgenoten Yvan Muller en Alain Menu om de laatste podiumplaats, maar uiteindelijk kon Menu de Fransman niet passeren. Tiago Monteiro eindigde de race als vijfde, gevolgd door Rob Huff en Norbert Michelisz. Tom Coronel reed lange tijd op de achtste plaats rond, wat hem de pole voor race 2 had opgeleverd, maar Andy Priaulx wist de Nederlander nog te passeren.
