Catsburg snel in vrije trainingen

Nick Catsburg is uitstekend begonnen aan zijn weekend op de Slovakia Ring in Bratislava. De Nederlander die vorig jaar zijn debuut maakte in het WTCC reed in de eerste training de derde tijd, in de twee training was hij zelfs het snelste in zijn Lada.

Volvo lijkt een geduchte concurrent te zijn voor Lada in Slowakije. In beide trainingen zaten de Volvo's niet ver van de tijden van Catsburg vandaan. De tijd die Catsburg reed in de tweede vrije training was wel iets langzamer dan de snelste tijd van Fedrik Elbrom in de eerste vrije training.

Waar Citroën in de seizoenen 2014 en 2015 domineerde met haar fabrieksauto's was daar op de Slovakia Ring weinig van terug te zien. Citroën besloot vorig jaar al niet meer met een eigen team te starten in 2016 en laat de auto's nu runnen door andere constructeurs. Er waren voor het eerst sinds 2013 geen Citroëns te vinden bij de eerste vijf.

Tom Coronel zal nog niet geheel tevreden zijn. De ROAL-Motorsport coureur reed in de eerste training een tiende tijd, maar bleef in de tweede training hangen op een zeventiende plaats op meer dan twee seconden van Nick Catsburg.
