Schmitz op de Nordschleife van de partij

Sabine Schmitz neemt het dit jaar weer op 'haar' Nordschleife op tegen de mannelijke World Touring Car Championship-coureurs. De Duitse maakte vorig seizoen haar debuut tijdens de WTCC-ronde op de oude Nürburgring en scoorde als eerste vrouw punten in het toerwagenkampioenschap.

Schmitz is dit jaar wederom van de partij, in een Chevrolet Cruze van Münnich Motorsport. Ze combineert dat met deelname aan de 24 uurs-race op de Nordschleife en het filmen van een item voor het programma Top Gear. Een druk programma voor de Duitse dus.

"Ik genoot er vorig jaar van om met de WTCC-coureurs te strijden op het mooiste circuit ter wereld", begint Schmitz. "Door mijn verplichtingen voor Top Gear kan ik op donderdag niet rijden in de test en de eerste vrije training. Dat is wel balen, want de Chevrolet is een heel ander beest dan de Porsche die ik gewend ben. Bij regen maak ik meer kans op succes, dus ik hoop dat de sluizen open gaan."
