Honda dominant in regenachtig Marrakech, Nederlanders buiten de punten

Rob Huff heeft in de regenachtige straten van het Marrokaanse Marrakech de overwinning in de hoofdrace behaald. De Brit finishte voor zijn teamgenoten Norbert Michelisz en Tiago Monteiro. Beide Nederlanders eindigden net buiten de punten.

Daar waar de eerste race onder droge omstandigheden werd verreden was het voor de start van de race beginnen te regenen. Bij de start was er weinig chaos en dat bleef ook in de rest van de race uit. Honda domineerde, in de eerste ronden probeerde Lopez het nog even maar na een foutje kwam Monteiro in de Honda weer langszij.

Tom Coronel was rondenlang in gevecht met James Thompson en Tom Chilton. De Nederlander had zichtbaar moeite met de wegligging van zijn Chevrolet Cruze. Na een klein foutje kwamen Thompson en Chilton langszij. In het vervolg van de race gebeurde er weinig meer. De Honda's controleerden het tempo en inhaalgevechten in de smalle en gladde straten van Marrakech waren er nauwelijks.

De andere Nederlander in het veld, Nick Catsburg, startte in zijn Lada vanuit de pits en reed dus een inhaalrace. Het duurde even voordat Catsburg op stoom kwam, maar uiteindelijk finishte hij nog voor Coronel in de race.

Het volgende treffen in het WTCC vindt plaats op de beroemde en beruchte Nordschleife in de Eiffel.
