Tim Coronel met Team Engstler naar WTCC in Brands Hatch

Naast Tom Coronel zal dit weekend nog een andere Nederlander actief zijn in het World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). Broer Tim Coronel is namelijk door BMW gevraagd om Andrei Romanov bij Team Engstler te vervangen in Brands Hatch.

Romanov moet het weekend in Engeland laten schieten vanwege persoonlijke problemen, maar de geruchten gaan dat de Rus geen visum kon krijgen. "We werden pas op het laatste moment op de hoogte gesteld dat Andrei niet kan rijden vanwege persoonlijke problemen. Hierdoor moesten we snel op zoek naar een oplossing", vertelde teammanager Kurt Treml.

"Gelukkig was Tim al in Brands Hatch, omdat hij in de SEAT Eurocup racet. We kennen hem al een lange tijd nadat hij vroeger al eens voor ons wat races heeft gereden en we hebben hem in het verleden naar het WTCC willen halen."

Tim Coronel zal pas voor de tweede keer in zijn carriére in actie komen in het WTCC. Zijn debuut maakte hij vorig jaar in Brno als gastrijder bij het SEAT SUNRED-team als teamgenoot van Tom Coronel. Zijn beste resultaat was toen een twaalfde plaats in de eerste race.
