Coronel en Monteiro op pole voor WTCC-races Vila Real

Chevrolet-coureur Tom Coronel en Honda-coureur Tiago Monteiro starten de WTCC-races op het stratencircuit van Vila Real vanaf pole position. Monteiro's pole is een verrassing, de laatste keer dat de Portugees op pole stond was in 2010. Nick Catsburg kende een moeilijke sessie en start buiten de top tien.

Monteiro leek voor aanvang van de kwalificatie de langzaamste coureur van Honda, maar reed een sterke ronde die hem de pole voor de hoofdrace bezorgde. Citroen-coureur Yvan Muller start als tweede, voor Honda-coureur Rob Huff.

Tweevoudig kampioen Jose Maria Lopez start de hoofdrace als vijfde. Voor Lada lijkt het stratencircuit in het Portugese Vila Real geen goed circuit te zijn. Nick Catsburg deed aan schadebeperking en start als negende, voor Tom Coronel. Coronel start de eerste race op zondag vanwege de reversed grid regel op de eerste plaats. Het is de tweede keer dit seizoen dat de Nederlander vanaf de eerste plaats mag beginnen.

De races in Vila Real beginnen vanmiddag om 16:05 uur en 17:15 uur.
