Lopez en Filippi starten races Argentinië van pole, Coronel goed op dreef

Tweevoudig WTCC-kampioen Jose Maria Lopez start de WTCC-hoofdrace in Argentinië van pole position. Gek genoeg reed de thuisrijder niet de snelste tijd, deze kwam op naam van een andere lokale held: Esteban Guerriri. Guerriri's tijd werd echter afgepakt vanwege een fout in de pits. Guerriri zorgde in de trainingen nog voor een schok door in zijn eerste kennismaking met het WTCC prompt de snelste tijden te rijden. In de sprintrace start John Filippi van pole, dankzij een tiende tijd in de kwalificatie. Tom Coronel zat er in de Chevrolet ook goed bij en pakte de derde startplaats voor de hoofdrace.

Grote tegenvallers van de kwalificatie waren de coureurs van Lada. Alle drie rijders konden na Q1 al gaan douchen. Nick Catsburg moet genoegen nemen met een veertiende startplaats, achter teamgenoot Valente en voor de ervaren rot Gabriele Tarquini. Ook de Volvo's vielen tegen. zij hielden enkel de Honda van Nagy achter zich.

Tom Coronel was de enige die zich nog enigzins in de strijd kon mengen om pole. Hij doorbrak de volledige dominantie van Citroen door een knappe derde tijd te rijden. De races worden vanavond verreden en worden zoals altijd live uitgezonden op Eurosport.
