Rob Huff terug in titelstrijd na overwinning Brno

Rob Huff heeft vanochtend de eerste WTCC-race op Brno op zijn naam geschreven. Hiermee is de Brit weer terug in de strijd om het kampioenschap, want kampioenschapsleider Yvan Muller scoorde niet. Gabriele Tarquini eindigde als tweede.

Het was een chaotische start van de race, waarbij vooraan Rob Huff de leiding behield, voor Gabriele Tarquini. In de eerste bocht werden de SEAT-collega's Tom Coronel en Jordi Gene al uitgeschakeld, terwijl Andy Priaulx, Kristian Poulsen en Fredy Barth met beschadigde auto's moesten doorrijden.

Hierdoor kwam de Safety Car op de baan, maar bij de herstart ging het opnieuw mis. Colin Turkington en Norbert Michelisz kwamen met elkaar in aanraking waarna Turkington tegen Yvan Muller reed. Turkington kon door op de vijfde plaats, terwijl Michelisz uitviel en Muller naar de pits moest voor reparaties.

Daardoor werden de coureurs vooraan niet meer bedreigd en pakte Huff met een voorsprong van acht tienden op Tarquini zijn eerste overwinning van het seizoen. Alain Menu pakte de derde plaats, gevolgd door Augusto Farfus. In de slotfase van de race kwam Priaulx nog naar voren met enkele mooie inhaalacties en kreeg later de vijfde plaats van Turkington. Michel Nykjaer en Darryl O'Young pakten de laatste punten.
