Nestor Girolami dwingt kans af bij Volvo

Volvo heeft besloten om Nestor Girolami een kans in het World Touring Car Championship te geven. De 27-jarige Argentijn dwong met zijn snelheid tijdens een test op Termas de Rio Hondo en zijn doorzettingsvermogen de mogelijkheid af om te racen in Japan op het circuit van Motegi.

Hij vervangt Robert Dahlgren, die zich gaat toeleggen op het Scandinavische toerwagenkampioenschap. Girolami verloor in 2013 van Jose Maria Lopez in de strijd om de titel in de Argentijnse SC2000-klasse. In 2014 en 2015 kroonde hij zich wel tot kampioen. Hij debuteerde vorig jaar in Slowakije al in het WTCC en scoorde gelijk punten.

Girolami: "Het is geweldig om weer onderdeel uit te maken van het WTCC en ik ben Polestar Cyan Racing dankbaar voor deze kans. Ik ga in Japan alles geven en mijn best doen voor goede resultaten. Ik voel me thuis in het WTCC en wil volgend jaar fulltime tot dit wereldje behoren."
