Coronel aast voor 2017 op een Citroën

Tom Coronel heeft zijn zinnen voor het volgende seizoen in het World Touring Car Championship gezet op een privé ingeschreven Citroën C-Elysée. Op dit moment bestuurt de Nederlander nog een Chevrolet Cruze. Het WTCC-fabrieksteam van Citroën houdt na dit jaar op te bestaan, maar het Franse merk zal nog wel wat auto's beschikbaar stellen voor privateers.

Coronel hoopt een van die wagens te bemachtigen, legt hij aan TouringCarTimes uit. "Citroën heeft haar auto's aangeboden en de prijs die ze vragen is niet eens zo gek. Ze hebben een goede aanbieding gedaan. Ik dacht dat ik me nooit een Citroën voor het WTCC kon veroorloven, maar de vraagprijs is niet al te hoog. Op dit moment heb ik niet voldoende budget, maar ik denk wel dat ik het bijeen kan schrapen."

"De prijs die ze vragen bedraagt de helft van wat ik dacht dat ze zouden vragen, dus dat is goed voor privateers in een Citroën. Het liefst blijf ik samenwerken met ROAL Motorsport. Ik heb een klik met teambaas Roberto Ravaglia. Het is even afwachten. Als Roberto er niet voor te porren is, dan knoop ik gesprekken aan met Münnich Motorsport. Dat is mijn systeem, maar mijn prioriteit ligt bij ROAL Motorsport."

Ongelooflijk dat zo'n goed coureur en positief uithangbord voor zo'n klasse moet gaan sprokkelen om mee te kunnen doen.

Hij zou toch gevraagd moeten worden door fabrieksteams?
