Lopez pakte dominante zege in hoofdrace Shanghai

Drievoudig WTCC-kampioen Jose Maria Lopez heeft op dominante wijze zijn achtste zege van het seizoen geboekt. De Argentijn reed onbedreigd naar de zege op het Shanghai International Circuit en had aan de streep een voorsprong van bijna twaalf seconden op merkgenoot Yvan Muller. Nick Catsburg startte als tweede en finishte de race als vierde, terwijl Tom Coronel in zijn Chevrolet tiende werd.

Bij de start was Lopez als beste weg en profiteerde hij van een slechte start van Nick Catsburg. Muller probeerde in de openingsfase aan te haken bij Lopez, maar moest al snel opgeven en zijn tweede plaats verdedigen ten opzichte van Bennani.

Catsburg finishte de race uiteindelijk ook een vierde plaats na een rommelige openingsfase. De Nederlander wist zonder problemen zijn vierde plaats vast te houden tot de finish. Gabiele Tarquini finishte de race als vijfde voor Frederik Ekblom en de winnaar van race een, Thed Björk. Björk probeerde nog even de vijfde plaats over te nemen van Tarquini maar toen dat niet lukte liet hij teammaat Ekblom voorbij.

Tiago Monteiro finishte de race op een eenzame achtste plaats, terwijl Tom Chilton en Tom Coronel de negende en tiende plaats voor zich opeisten. De volgende races in het WTCC zijn pas over twee maanden in Thailand.
