Catsburg nieuwe leider in kampioenschap, Tom Coronel zevende

Volvo-coureur Nick Catsburg is de nieuwe lijstaanvoerder in het WTCC. De Nederlander won de tweede race op de Nordschleife en neemt de leiding in het kampioenschap over van Honda-coureur Tiago Monteiro. Tom Coronel scoorde net als in de eerste race punten, de ervaren coureur scoorde een zevende plaats.

Bij de start verloor polesitter Norbert Michelisz vrijwel direct de leiding aan Catsburg. Michelisz, Björk en Huff probeerden de leiding van Catsburg over te nemen, maar de Nederlander hield stand.

Het lukte Catsburg in de tweede ronde om weg te rijden bij Michelisz en er werd een voorsprong opgebouwd van ongeveer drie seconden. In de slotfase wist Catsburg uit de problemen te blijven en een zeer welkome overwinning te behalen. Tom Coronel kwam in de slotfase ook niet meer in de problemen en werd keurig zevende.

Door de winst van Catsburg en het feit dat Monteiro geen punten scoorde is Catsburg dus de nieuwe leider in het kampioenschap. Een puike prestatie van Catsburg, die steeds sterker lijkt te gaan presteren in het WTCC.

Zoals ik in het andere WTCC bericht ook al poste, gefeliciteerd Nick! Wel een beetje jammer dat zo'n gave baan zo'n saaie klote race heeft opgeleverd.
