WTCC verhuist volgend seizoen naar Donington Park

De organisatie van het World TouringCar Championship, het WTCC, heeft zojuist bevestigd dat er vanaf volgend seizoen op Donington Park zal worden gereden. Eerder maakte de organisatie nog bekend dat Brands Hatch voor het zesde achtereenvolgende jaar het WTCC in Engeland zou organiseren, maar daar is men op teruggekomen.

In een verklaring van het WTCC staan logistieke redenen als belangrijkste oorzaak van de plotselinge verhuizing. Verder zouden ook de faciliteiten een rol hebben gespeeld bij deze beslissing. Donington Park is namelijk compleet verbouwd en heeft een nieuw pitcomplex gekregen.

"Ik ben erg blij met deze tweejarige overeenkomst en ik weet zeker dat beide partijen goed samen zullen werken", vertelde WTCC-baas Marcello Lotti. "Donington Park is een historische plaats voor de autosport en na de renovaties biedt eht circuit nu alle faciliteiten wat ons kampioenschap verdiend."
