Augusto Farfus sterkste in regenachtige tweede race Okayama

Augusto Farfus heeft vanochtend de tweede WTCC-race in Okayama gewonnen. De Braziliaanse BMW-coureur hield zijn hoofd koel in de lastige omstandigheden op het Japanse circuit en bleef Colin Turkington voor. Tom Coronel hestelde zich enigszins van zijn slechte eerste race.

Farfus heeft de hele race geen stap verkeerd gezet. In de beginfase ging de Braziliaan voorbij aan Norbert Michelisz en Colin Turkington en lag op dat moment al derde. In de negende rond ging leider Michel Nykjaer in de fout en gleed het circuit af in de regen. Farfus nam hierdoor de tweede plaats over, maar twee ronden later ging Gabriele Tarquini in de fout. De Italiaan had de leiding overgenomen van Nykjaer, maar ging zelf in de fout en crashte uit de race.

Farfus nam hierdoor de leidende positie over en gaf deze niet meer af. De Safety Car kwam nog naar buiten door de crasg van Tarquini, waardoor de overwinning van Farfus niet meer in gevaar kwa. Het was de eerste overwinning van de BMW-coureur dit seizoen. Hij bleef Colin Turkington voor die een knappe tweede plaats behaalde. Yvan Muller eindigde als derde, gevolgd door zijn Chevrolet-collega's Rob Huff en Alain Menu.

Robert Dahlgren pakte in zijn Volvo de zesde plaats en bleef Michel Nykjaer voor. Norbert Michelisz, Tom Coronel en Daaryl O'Young maakten de top-tien compleet. Muller staat nu 37 punten voor op Andy Priaulx in het kampioenschap, die in de tweede race nog uitviel door een spin. Tarquini is officieël uitgeschakeld voor de titel na zijn crash.
