Rob Huff verslaat teammaat Muller voor winst in Macau

Rob Huff heeft een verdiende overwinning gepakt in de eerste WTCC-race in Macau. De Chevrolet-coureur reed tijdens de trainingen én kwalificaties de snelste tijd en bekroonde dit met een overwinning. Teammaat Yvan Muller eindigde als tweede, terwijl Tiago Monteiro het podium compleet maakte.

Huff maakte een goede start, maar meteen werd de Safety Car de baan opgestuurd. Andy Priaulx, Andre Couto en Michel Nykjaer kwamen met elkaar in aanraking in de eerste bocht en pas na vier ronden waren alle auto's van het circuit verwijderd. Hierna behield Huff zijn eerste positie en pakte samen met teamgenoot Muller de dubbelzege voor Chevrolet. Dit betekend dat het merk ook de constructeurstitel binnen heeft.

Huff had een voorsprong van twee seconden opgebouwd richting Muller toen in de voorlaatste ronde opnieuw de Safety Car aan het werk werd gezet. Henry Ho was gecrashed en zijn auto stond op een gevaarlijke plek. Hierdoor was ook het gevecht voor de vierde plaats meteen voorbij. Gabriele Tarquini eindigde voor Norbert Michelisz, die eerder al voorbij ging aan Augusto Farfus. Alain Menu en Kristian Poulsen completeerden de top-acht.

Franz Engstler eindigde als snelste Independent als negende en zijn titelkansen kregen een flinke boost omdat concurrent Darryl O'Young niet aan de finish kwam. De coureur uit Hong Kong werd namelijk door Tom Coronel in een spin geduwd waarvoor de Nederlander ook bestraft werd met een drive trough-penalty. Hij eindigde uiteindelijk als twaalfde.
