Tiago Monteiro heeft zich noodgedwongen teruggetrokken voor de ronde in het World Touring Car Championship op het circuit van Motegi van komend weekend. De Portugees ondervindt nog te veel hinder van de naweeën van een testongeluk op het circuit van Barcelona van vorige maand.

Monteiro moest eerder al de races in China aan zich voorbij laten gaan en ook in Japan kan hij niet van de partij zijn. Honda maakt zijn vervanger in een later stadium bekend. Op het circuit van Ningbo nam Gabriele Tarquini de honneurs voor hem waar. Monteiro staat momenteel tweede in de tussenstand, op een half puntje van leider Thed Björk.

"Dit is een van de meest teleurstellende momenten uit mijn carrière", begint de Portugees. "Als team hebben we keihard gewerkt om onszelf in de positie te brengen om het kampioenschap te winnen en daardoor valt het heel zwaar om dat nu door onze vingers te zien glippen. Het frustrerende is dat mijn herstel voorspoedig verloopt, het is alleen de tijd die tegenzit. Al deze dingen motiveren me wel om nog sterker terug te keren wanneer de tijd rijp is."
