Guerrieri de vervanger van Monteiro bij Honda

Honda heeft Esteban Guerrieri opgeroepen als vervanger van Tiago Monteiro voor de ronde van het World Touring Car Championship op het circuit van Motegi van komend weekend. Monteiro is nog niet voldoende hersteld van de fysieke ongemakken die hij vorige maand opliep bij een crash tijdens een test op het circuit van Barcelona.

Guerrieri, een 32-jarige Argentijn, is bezig aan zijn eerste volledige seizoen in het WTCC. In de Chevrolet Cruze van het team van Campos Racing wist hij al twee keer een race te winnen, in Marokko en in China. Hij staat zevende in het algemeen klassement en bezet de vierde plaats in de tussenstand bij de privateers.

In Japan krijgt hij de kans bij het fabrieksteam van Honda. Guerrieri: "Het is spijtig dat Tiago nog niet in staat is om weer te racen, maar ik ben extreem blij met de mogelijkheid om me bij Honda te voegen voor Motegi en met een echte fabrieksauto aan de slag te gaan. Ik wil ook Campos Racing bedanken voor hun positieve houding en medewerking."

Campos Racing heeft European Touring Car-coureur Kris Richard aangesteld als vervanger van Guerrieri.
