16-jarige Oriola gaat voor top vijf-klassering bij Independents

De 16-jarige Pepe Oriola zal volgend seizoen zijn debuut maken in het WTCC voor SEAT. De tiener heeft zichzelf duidelijke doelen gesteld en wil in 2011 in de top vijf eindigen bij de Independents. Verder wil de Spanjaard ooit nog eens wereldkampioen in het WTCC worden.

"Het was altijd al een droom van me om in het WTCC of DTM te rijden", vertelde Oriola die vorige week door SUNRED werd bevestigd. "Door mijn sponsoren, de ondersteuning van mijn familie en natuurlijk het team SUNRED is deze droom werkelijkheid geworden." Oriola is met zijn 16 jaar de jongste deelnemer ooit in het WTCC en strijd tegen een andere Independent-coureur, Franz Engstler, die al 49 jaar is.

"Het project met SUNRED is al een tijdje aan de gang, zeker al twee jaar. Mijn eerste doel is om zoveel mogelijk te leren in mijn eerste seizoen en proberen bij de top vijf van de Independents te komen. Dat zal niet gemakkelijk zijn, maar ik ga het proberen. Op lange termijn wil ik wereldkampioen worden."
