Huff wint eerste race, Coronel door pech vroeg uit de race

Rob Huff heeft de eerste race van het WTCC op het Circuit Zolder weten te winnen. Huff bleef teamgenoten Menu en Muller voor. De laatste had nog wel even een gevecht om de laatste podiumplaats met Seat-coureur Gabriele Tarquini, maar beslechte het duel in zijn voordeel.

Einde weekend voor Coronel na pech
Tom Coronel kende een goede start van de race. Van de elfde plek wist de BMW-coureur enkele plaatsen te stijgen bij de start, tot de negende positie. In de derde ronde ging het echter mis; voor Coronel spinde Barth na de derde bocht. Het lukte de hem om uit te wijken, maar bij het uitrijden van de grindbak zat er een onfortuinlijke hobbel. Coronel kwam zelf in een spin terecht, waarna Franz Engstler tegen de rechter zijkant van Coronel knalde.

Hierdoor was de wedstrijd voor Coronel ten einde en direct zijn hele weekend. De wagen is te beschadigd om op tijd te kunnen repareren, de chassisbalk voor ligt er onderuit, voor de tweede race.

Het podium werd bezet door het Chevrolet-trio Huff, Menu en Muller. De top tien werd volbracht door Tarquini, Monteiro, Poulsen, Michelisz, Nykjaer, Villa en O'Young.
