Okyay in Monza in een BMW van Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport

Ibrahim Okyay maakt in Monza zijn rentree in het World Touring Car Championship. De 41-jarige Turk won meerdere nationale toerwagenkampioenschappen en zal in Italië een BMW 320si van Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport besturen. Okyay is sinds 2008 niet meer actief geweest in het WTCC.

Hoewel we briljante resultaten behaald hebben in het European Touring Car Championship en in Turkije beseffen we ons hoe moeilijk het is om succesvol te zijn in het WTCC. Ik denk niet dat de BMW 320si competitief is ten opzichte van de 1.6 turbo auto's, maar het is goed om terug te zijn in het wereldkampioenschap. Ons plan is om in 2012 het hele seizoen aan het WTCC deel te nemen en de races in Monza vormen een goede graadmeter om te zien waar we staan, aldus Okyay.
