Alain Menu en Yvan Muller pakken eerste startrij voor Chevrolet

Alain Menu heeft zojuist de pole position gescoord op de Hungaroring. De Zwitser was in de tweede kwalificatiesessie ruim een tiende sneller dan teamgenoot Yvan Muller. Tom Coronel scoorde de vierde startplaats, terwijl kampioenschapsleider Rob Huff buiten de top tien is gevallen.

Huff, die tot nu toe oppermachtig is in het kampioenschap en in Monza zelfs beide races won, kende een teleurstellende kwalificatie. De Chevrolet-coureur kwam in het eerste deel van de kwalificatie niet verder dan de twaalfde plaats en kon daarna dus meteen al uitstappen. Hij kwam een dikke tiende tekort op de tiende tijd van Mehdi Bennani. Het was Javier Villa die verrassend de snelste tijd reed in Q1, gevolgd door Volvo-rijder Robert Dahlgren.

In het tweede gedeelte was het toch weer Chevrolet dat de toon zette. Met Alain Menu en Yvan Muller als overgebleven rijders in Q2 pakte de blauwe brigade de eerste startrij. Villa bleef sterk rijden en kwam op de derde startplaats slechts twee tienden tekort. Tom Coronel pakte de vierde positie, gevolgd door Norbert Michelisz, Robert Dahlgren, Tiago Monteiro en Kristian Poulsen. Gabriele Tarquini pakte de negende stek, terwijl Bennani de top tien completeerde.
