Franz Engstler pakt verrassende overwinning in Oschersleben

Franz Engstler heeft zojuist een verrassende zege gescoord in Oschersleben. De Independent-coureur was op een vochtig circuit sneller dan Alain Menu. Tom Coronel had de problemen van de eerste race overwonnen en eindigde als vierde.

Engstler, die vanaf de pole position startte, kende een goede start. Echter, Norbert Michelisz kwam nog beter weg en nam meteen de leiding over. Pas in de achtste ronde maakte Michelisz zijn eerste foutje van de race en zo kwam Egstler weer langszij.

Alain Menu kwam in de laatste ronden nog dichtbij de Independent-rijder, maar kwam uiteindelijk een seconde tekort voor de overwinning. De zege van Engstler is niet alleen de eerste WTCC-overwinning van de Duitse coureur, ook is hiermee een einde gekomen aan de elf achtereenvolgende overwinningen van Chevrolet.

Gabriele Tarquini eindigde in zijn SUNRED SEAT als derde, slechts 0.031 seconden voor Tom Coronel. De Nederlander had veel meer snelheid dan in de eerste race en kwam als vierde over de finish. Yvan Muller kwam na een prachtig gevecht als vijfde over de finish, gevolgd door teamgenoot en kampioenschapsleider Rob Huff.
