FIA onthult WTCC-kalender voor 2012, andere opzet kwalificatie

De internationale autosportbond FIA heeft het WTCC-schema voor volgend seizoen bekend gemaakt. De jaargang begint op 11 maart in Monza en eindigt na twaalf evenementen op 18 november in Macau. Sonoma en de Salzburgring zijn nieuw, Marrakech keert terug op de kalender. Zolder staat niet meer op het programma.

De World Motor Sport Council van de FIA heeft ook enkele veranderingen aan het kwalificatieformat goed gekeurd. De top vijf uit de kwalificatie verdient punten, aflopend van vijf naar één. De startopstelling voor de tweede race wordt bepaald aan de hand van de uitslag van Q2, met de top tien in omgekeerde volgorde. Twaalf coureurs nemen voortaan deel aan Q2, om te voorkomen dat iemand zich niet kwalificeert en zodoende pole position voor race twee bemachtigt.
