Chevrolet heerst in Macau, Barth schrijft SEAT af in crash

Het trio coureurs van Chevrolet heeft de WTCC-training in de straten van Macau gedomineerd. Rob Huff, Alain Menu en Yvan Muller in die volgorde houden het veld in hun greep en waren als enigen in staat tot tijden in de 2:32. Tiago Monteiro was beste van de rest.

De Portugees in de Sunred SEAT gaf 2,1 seconden toe op Huff. Een andere SEAT-coureur, Fredy Barth, kende een angstig moment. Hij crashte in Faraway en de voorkant van zijn wagen raakte daarbij zwaar beschadigd, maar de bolide vatte kort daarna ook vlam. Barth was bij bewustzijn en werd bevrijd door de marshalls. Hij had ogenschijnlijk nergens last van, maar hij is voor de zekerheid naar het ziekenhuis gebracht voor controles.

Tom Coronel moest genoegen nemen met de negende positie, met een tijd van 2:35.742. Javier Villa crashte nog in de bocht Paiol, waarbij de rechterkant van zijn Proteam BMW de nodige schade opliep.
