Yokohama waarschuwt WTCC-teams voor banden voor Portimao

Bandenleverancier Yokohama heeft de teams in het World Touring Car Championship de boodschap gegeven om komend weekend niet te agressief te zijn met de afstelling en de banden. De Japanse bandenfabrikant handelt naar aanleiding van de problemen bij de vorige ronde op de Salzburgring. Daar kregen onder andere de Chevrolets in de slotfase van de tweede race te maken met uit elkaar vallende banden.

Yokohama Europa-motorsportbaas Kazuyoshi Sekiguchi deelde aan Autosport mede: "Acht auto's kampten aan het einde van de tweede wedstrijd in Oostenrijk met lekke banden. We hebben met de teams gesproken en we zijn net zo teleurgesteld als zij, maar we wisten dat het kon gebeuren. De karakteristieken van het circuit speelden een rol, het is een zware baan voor voorwiel aangedreven toerwagens. Portimao zal waarschijnlijk niet dezelfde problemen opleveren, maar we adviseren de teams toch om niet met te veel camber of te weinig bandendruk te rijden."

"Onze overeenkomst met het WTCC om banden te leveren loopt eind dit jaar af. We mengen ons in de strijd voor het contract voor de komende drie jaar en als wij worden gekozen en de Salzburgring staat volgend jaar nog steeds op het programma, dan overwegen wij om de band aan te passen. Het zal geen grote verandering zijn, aangezien onze huidige compound een goed evenwicht tussen voorwiel en achterwiel aangedreven auto's biedt."
