BMW beweegt richting de uitgang door nieuwe regels

BMW heeft aangegeven dat 2013 waarschijnlijk het laatste jaar van de Duitse autofabrikant in het World Touring Car Championship is. De nieuwe reglementen voor volgend seizoen met betrekking tot de motoren in het wereldkampioenschap toerwagens zijn het Beierse merk te gortig.

BMW-motorsportbaas Jens Marquardt legt aan Autosport uit: "Ik zie gewoon niet hoe wij een krachtbron volgens de nieuwe richtlijnen kunnen produceren. Ze hebben het over 400 pk, dat is onmogelijk voor ons. We hebben geen Global Racing Engine. Onze TC-motor is gebaseerd op een 1.6 liter productieblok en daar ligt ook onze limiet."

"We bevinden ons al aan het plafond van de performance en mij is verteld dat de FIA uit is op cijfers die voor ons niet haalbaar zijn. Zelfs de TC-motor onder de huidige reglementen is commercieel gezien geen lucratief project voor ons, dus we kunnen geen kant op."
