Paul Ricard aast voor 2014 op ronde in het WTCC

Het circuit van Paul Ricard mikt op een World Touring Car Championship-evenement voor volgend jaar. Frankrijk ontbreekt sinds 2009 op de kalender voor het wereldkampioenschap toerwagens en daar wil de baan in Le Castellet in de lente van 2014 verandering in brengen.

Paul Ricard-baas Stephane Clair vertrouwde Autosport toe: "We werken aan een WTCC-race. Het World Touring Car Championship is volgend jaar erg interessant voor Frankrijk met Sebastien Loeb en Yvan Muller namens Citroën. Het zou een mooi evenement zijn om ons jaar mee te openen."

Paul Ricard zou de plek van Monza in kunnen nemen als opening van het WTCC-seizoen. Citroën dringt aan op een evenement in Frankrijk en WTCC-baas Marcelo Lotti is ook een voorstander. "Het zou vrij logisch zijn om een Franse ronde te organiseren."

Daarnaast lijkt ook een rentree van het WTCC op Spa-Francorchamps in de maak. Het circuit in de Belgische Ardennen zou de race door de straten van Porto vervangen. Lotti zal de komende weken besteden aan het afronden van een kalender voor 2014 bestaande uit twaalf ontmoetingen.
