Valtteri Bottas sprint naar eerste zege na superstart

Valtteri Bottas heeft vanochtend zijn allereerste overwinning in de GP3 Series gescoord. De Finse coureur ging in de eerste ronde maar liefst vijf coureurs voorbij, pakte de leiding en gaf deze niet meer af. Nigel Melker eindigde de race, die op een nat circuit werd verreden als derde, achter kampioenschapsleider Alexander Sims.

Bottas kende een geweldige start. De ART-coureur startte de race als zesde, maar lag na de eerste ronde al aan de leiding. Vanaf dat moment werd het een one-man show. Alexander Sims ging in de vierde ronde voorbij aan polesitter Tamas Pal Kiss en kon de jacht openen naar Bottas. De Fin was echter té snel en reed comfortabel naar zijn eerste overwinning in de GP3 Series.

Sims kwam in de slotfase van de race nog onder druk te staan van Nigel Melker. De Nederlander reed een sterke race en waagde in de laatste chicane nog een laatste aanval op Sims voor de tweede positie. Deze slaagde echter niet, maar Melker mocht alsnog het podium als derde beklimmen. Kiss eindigde uiteindelijk als vierde, gevolgd door Tom Dillmann en James Calado.
