Valtteri Bottas opent Spa-weekend met snelste tijd

Valtteri Bottas heeft vanochtend de snelste tijd gereden in de vrije training van de GP3 Series op Spa-Francorchamps. De Finse leider in het kampioenschap reed zijn beste tijd vroeg in de sessie, voordat elf minuten voor het einde de regen naar beneden kwam. Mitch Evans en James Calado volgden als tweede en derde.

Vlak voordat de regen viel was Bottas nog helemaal niet zeker van de snelste tijd. Evans kwam ronde na ronde dichterbij, maar bleef uiteindelijk steken op een achterstand van 0.280 seconden. Calado eindigde op ruim een halve seconde achterstand als derde, gevolgd door Adrian Quaife-Hobbs en Antonio Felix da Costa.

Nigel Melker stond korte tijd aan kop van de tijdenlijst, maar viel uiteindelijk terug tot de zesde plaats. Hij bleef Alexander Sims en Simon Trummer nipt voor.
